History
The North American beaver or "Castor canadensis" first appeared in North America. They were known to be hunted
to an almost excinction because of their fur.
habitat
Beavers live in ponds, lakes, rivers, marshes, streams and adjacent wetlands.
Beavers are among the few animals that modify their habitat; they build watertight dams. 🪵
Diet
Beavers are considered herbivores. Their diet consists of Leaves, inner bark, and twigs of deciduous trees and shrubs.
they also eat birch, cottonwood, willow, oak, and maple and some aquatic plants. 🌱
Physical appearance
Beavers have stocky bodies with a yellow-brown/almost black coat and a broad, flat, scaly tail. Their large, orange incisors grow
continuously throughout their lifetime.
Role
Beavers are the silent heroes who helps maintain the ecosystem. Their dam-building activities create structures that help landscapes adapt to and recover from climate-related
disturbances. For example, Beaver dams and pools reduce soil erosion and retain sediment, which absorb and filter pollutants such as heavy metals,
pesticides, and fertilizers.💪
